Minister Pokharel highlights Nepal's progress on gender parity in basic education in New York

KATHMANDU, July 17: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel on Tuesday highlighted the progress Nepal made on gender parity in basic education in the high-level side event ‘SDG 4.5: Gender Parity, Equality and Inclusion’ organized in New York.

KATHMANDU, July 17: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel on Tuesday highlighted the progress Nepal made on gender parity in basic education in the high-level side event ‘SDG 4.5: Gender Parity, Equality and Inclusion’ organized in New York.



According to the press statement issued by Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations yesterday, Minister Pokharel took part in the event organized on Tuesday in New York on the sidelines of the 2019 High-Level Political Forum as a panelist.


He highlighted the parts of the SDGs achieved by the Nepal government, which are mentioned under 'Goal 4' including the targets of gender parity, equality and inclusion.

Speaking as a panelist in the event, Minister Pokharel also reiterated Nepal’s commitment to making legal and programmatic interventions to ensure gender parity, equality and inclusion in education.


In addition, he outlined Nepal government’s policies and plans aimed at making further progress in these areas.


Likewise, vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission Puspa Raj Kadel on Tuesday attended the opening of the three-day High-Level/Ministerial Segment of the 2019 High-Level Political Forum in New York, according to the press release issued by Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations on Tuesday.


Kadel is set to deliver Nepal’s national statement on Wednesday. He is also scheduled to participate as a panelist in the event ‘Accelerating action to end forced labor, human trafficking, modern slavery and child labor’ today.


The opening was addressed by Inga Rhonda King, President of ECOSOC, Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, and Maria Fernanda Espinosa, President of the General Assembly who underlined the role of the Forum in the implementation and monitoring of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
