KATHMANDU, March 27: CPN-UML MPs have questioned whether the transitional justice (TJ) bill will provide a lasting solution.
UML MP Raghuji Pant asked such a question while participating in the theoretical discussion on the bill to amend the Commission for Investigation, Truth and Reconciliation Act 2071. He said, "The question has arisen whether this bill is a real solution to the problem, a long-term solution, or is it just an eyewash?"

He said that TJ should be carried forward with everyone's agreement and the government should act accordingly.
Stating that there are 60,000 complaints at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Disappeared Persons Investigation Commission, Pant doubted if investigations into 60,000 plus complaints would be completed in the next two years. “It is not appropriate to postpone this problem in haste," he said.
He expressed his displeasure that the government had given a holiday on February 13 as People's War Day. Referring to the fact that they remember the Jhapa Rebellion, but they do not call it a national day, MP Pant said, "People's War Day was given a holiday, why was it given? I don't celebrate People's War Day. Is the National Day of People's War a holiday?”
