11 lawmakers skipped crucial Lower House meeting that endorsed new political map

A total of 11 lawmakers of the House of Representatives (HoR) chose to skip the crucial Lower House meeting which passed the constitution amendment bill that endorsed the country's new political map incorporating Kalapani, Lipu Lekh and Limpiyadhura.

KATHMANDU, June 13: A total of 11 lawmakers of the House of Representatives (HoR) chose to skip the crucial Lower House meeting which passed the constitution amendment bill that endorsed the country's new political map incorporating Kalapani, Lipu Lekh and Limpiyadhura.

Altogether 258 of the total 275 lawmakers of the lower house had voted in favor of the constitution amendment bill. While the House Speaker does not normally take part in such voting, four lawmakers -- Resham Chaudhary, Hari Narayan Rauniyar, Aftab Alam and Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar-- are under suspension. 


Remaining 12 other lawmakers had chosen to skip the House meeting. Those skipping the meeting citing various reasons include four lawmakers belonging to ruling Nepal Communist Party, three lawmakers belonging to Nepali Congress and four others belonging to Janata Samajbadi Party. 


According to Federal Parliament Secretariat, those skipping the crucial house meeting include Amrita Agrahari, Dulari Devi Khatweni and Pramod Sah of Janata Samajbadi Party. While Agrahari had left for home as the voting over the amendment bill started, another lawmaker of the Janata Samajbadi Party Sarita Giri had walked out of the meeting after her amendment proposal was rejected by the House Speaker Agni Sapkota.


Ruling NCP lawmakers Gopal Bahadur Bam, Haribol Gajurel, Dhan Bahadur Budha and Shiva Kumar Mandal did not attend the House meeting on Saturday. NC lawmakers Nagendra Kumar Chaudhary, Surya Bahadur KC and Gyan Kumari Chhantyal also did not attend the House meeting citing various reasons.
