KATHMANDU, March 23: Nepal Police has arrested 130 leaders and cadres of the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) since the recent bomb blast in the capital which took a life.
Nepal Police headquarters informed Republica that the police had arrested 100 leaders and cadres of the outfit between mid-February and mid-March for their involvement in various terrorist activities and another 30 since the government ban on the outfit.
More Chand outfit members arrested, no progress seen in talks
Following the government ban, police had formed a special task force to search and arrest the outfit members. The government banned the outfit after it carried out two major bomb blasts in the capital in two months. One person was killed and two sustained injuries in the incidents. The outfit had claimed responsibility for both the blasts.
Nepal Police spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Uttam Raj Subedi said that police had arrested 11 members of the outfit within three days of the ban. “And in the following week, we were able to nab 19 more.” The biggest fish that landed on police net was a politburo member of the outfit on March 15. Mohan Karki alias Jivanta was arrested near his rented room in Lalitpur.
