The Embassy of the Republic of Korea saw the opening ceremony of Korean Culture Week on Friday at Heritage Garden. The event witnessed by a multitude of Korean expats and Nepali youths aimed at enhancing the social ties between both the countries.
The first day regaled the visitors with Korean traditional food exhibition, Korean Speech Contest, K-POP performance by Nepali artists with Korean market and cooking class. A huge throng of young visitors attended the event where the young crowd was much enchanted by the Korean food and cultural-dress stalls.

Altogether 16 types of traditional Korean cuisines were put to display including an assortment of Korean foods for visitors to savor.
“This is the first time that we have attended the Korean culture week and we are already looking forward to attending it next year as well. We had only seen actors wearing cultural attire in movies and we are glad that the event gave us the opportunity to feel the Korean attire,” said 16-year-old Shristi Adhikari of Imadol and 18-year-old Subrina Chitrakar of Mangal Bazar.
Similarly, the Korean speech contest included 10 participants, five each from junior and senior section delivered speeches on an assigned topic for five minutes. Dudh Bahadur Gurung from senior category and Unisha Acharya from junior were announced the winner of the speech contest who were awarded Samsung Phones.
Cooking class served as the spot for heavy attention as the making of a range of diverse gastronomies held interaction between Korean and Nepali citizen. “Getting to learn other culture through their tastes and flavor is quite interesting. This is the first time that I have joined myself at the event to have a closer view of Korean food and culture and I have observed quite much throughout the process,” said 21-year-old Tulsi Khadayat, a participant at the cooking class.
There is much entertainment awaiting the end of the week. The Embassy is all set to organize Korean Film Festival from May 26-29 at QFX LABIM Mall which will hold the screening of five popular Korean movies for free of cost.
