2024 passport rankings out: France leads, Nepal holds 103rd position

KATHMANDU, Feb 19: The Henley Passport Index has announced the global ranking of passports for the year 2024. France has topped the list, becoming the country with the most powerful passport.

KATHMANDU, Feb 19: The Henley Passport Index has announced the global ranking of passports for the year 2024. France has topped the list, becoming the country with the most powerful passport.



According to the index, French citizens can now travel to 194 countries without needing a visa, making the French passport the most powerful in the world. Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain also share the top spot, with their citizens enjoying visa-free access to 194 countries as well.

Nepal's passport ranks at the 103rd position, enabling its citizen’s visa-free access to 40 countries worldwide. This position remains unchanged from 2023, with Nepal sharing its ranking with Libya and Palestine.


At the lower end of the spectrum, Afghanistan remains one of the countries with the least powerful passport, ranked at 109th. Afghan citizens have visa-free access to only 28 countries.
