30-month term extension recommended for Joint Project Office on Saptakoshi, Sunkoshi

KATHMANDU, July 27: The 15th meeting of India-Nepal Joint Team of Experts (JTE) on Saptakoshi High Dam Multipurpose Project and Sunkoshi Storage Cum Diversion Scheme has recommended extending the term of the Joint Project Office of Saptakoshi Sunkoshi Investigation for a period of 30 months effective from March 1, 2017. The JTE meeting held in Kathmandu on July 25 -26 made the decision to recommend for the term extension after reviewing the progress made since the 14th meeting of JTE.

KATHMANDU, July 27: The 15th meeting of India-Nepal Joint Team of Experts (JTE) on Saptakoshi High Dam Multipurpose Project and Sunkoshi Storage Cum Diversion Scheme has recommended extending the term of the Joint Project Office of Saptakoshi Sunkoshi Investigation for a period of 30 months effective from March 1, 2017. The JTE meeting held in Kathmandu on July 25 -26 made the decision to recommend for the term extension after reviewing the progress made since the 14th meeting of JTE.



According to a press statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, the meeting held discussion on follow-up action on decisions taken on various items of the 14th Meeting of JTE, environmental impact assessment studies, resettlement and rehabilitation plan, design flood studies, Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) studies, power potential studies, power system and power evacuation studies and drilling activities at the SaptaKosi High Dam site.

While the Nepali team was led by Director General of the Department of Electricity Development, Nabin Raj Singh, the Indian team was led by Member (River Management) of Central Water Commission, Pradeep Kumar.


Besides reviewing the progress made in the ongoing studies on both the projects, various administrative matters were also discussed in the meeting, according to the statement. The JTE decided to hold the next meeting in February 2018.
