44 percent of Madhesh Province govt budget remains unused in current FY

JANAKPURDHAM, July 10: The Madhesh Province government was unable to spend a large portion of its budget for the current fiscal year 2023/24.



Out of a total budget of Rs 44.114 billion, only Rs 24.59 billion was utilized, according to the Provincial Treasury Controller Office. This accounts for 55.75 percent of the total budget. Specifically, the provincial government spent Rs 9.30 billion out of Rs 18.54 billion allocated for recurrent expenditures. On the capital budget side, Rs 15.30 billion out of Rs 25.58 billion was spent.

This is not an isolated occurrence. In the fiscal year 2022/23, as much as 42.58 percent of the provincial budget was frozen. Similarly, in the fiscal year 2021/22, half of the budget was frozen, with only Rs 17.77 billion out of Rs 34.89 billion spent.
