5 corporate houses sponsor Ganeshman Boxing

KATHMANDU, Jan 28: Five corporate houses have announced their plan to sponsor for the Ganeshman Singh Memorial National Open Boxing Tournament, which starts from February 5.



Amid an event organized at Durbarmarg in Kathmandu on Sunday, the five houses -- Jagadamba Motors, Leon Motors, Reebok, Brij Cements and Laxmi Bank -- signed agreement of sponsorship with Ganeshman Singh Foundation.

Leon Motors (traders of Mitsubishi vehicles) will provide Rs 500,000, whereas Reebok will provide Rs 500,000, Brij Cements Rs 300,000, and Laxmi Bank Rs 300,000 for the tournament.  The tournament, which will run till February 9, will be played in Basantapur, Kathmandu. A total of 10 teams -- three departmental and seven provincial -- will take part in the tournament which will feature a total of 140 players (80 men and 60 women).


Rajeev Shrestha, coordinator of the organizing committee, informed that they have already selected players from all seven provinces for the tournament. The organizers have estimated the total cost of the tournament to be Rs 8 million. National Sports Council (NSC) has allocated Rs 5 million for it.
