659 tourists entered Nepal through Birgunj checkpoint in a year

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: In the last one year, only 659 foreign tourists entered Nepal through the Birgunj customs point in Parsa. With the decrease in the spread of COVID-19 worldwide, the number of inbound tourists to Nepal is increasing.

KATHMANDU, Feb 5: In the last one year, only 659 foreign tourists entered Nepal through the Birgunj customs point in Parsa. With the decrease in the spread of COVID-19 worldwide, the number of inbound tourists to Nepal is increasing.



According to the Tourist Police Office Birgunj, from January 2022 to January 2023, 659 foreign tourists entered Nepal from the Birgunj crossing, while 550 foreign tourists left.


Police Sub-inspector Anil Kumar Mahato, chief of Tourism Police Office, Birgunj, said that the number of tourists is higher than other months in October, November, December and January, when the climate and travel season are considered suitable.

According to the statistics maintained by the office, 102 foreign tourists entered Nepal through Birgunj in the last month alone, while 124 people left.


Mahato said that more tourists from America, France, Thailand, Germany, and Canada come to Nepal through the Birgunj checkpoint after visiting various cities in India.


According to Inspector Mahato, Tourist Police Office Birgunj is doing the work of raising awareness to prevent inconvenience or fraud to the tourists who come to Nepal via Birgunj.


The Birgunj Immigration Office issues on-arrival visas to foreign tourists entering Nepal through the Birgunj checkpoint via Raxaul in India.
