Nepal’s COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 93.4 percent



KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Nepal reported a total of 9,162 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past one week taking Nepal's total caseload to 239,885.


According to the COVID-19 data availed by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the highest number of cases this week were registered on Wednesday (1,490) while the least cases were diagnosed on Saturday (1,024).

Officials at MoHP confirmed 1,255 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, 1,474 cases on Monday and 1,304 cases on Tuesday while the country recorded 1,343 more infections on Thursday and 1,272 on Friday.


The country carried out a total of 58,196 real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests at more than 70 COVID-19 laboratories across the country to confirm these cases. The tests for COVID-19 disease stand at 8,313 on average a day. 


The country which once conducted almost 20,000 tests a day, has reported a sharp decline in the number of tests following the government’s decision on October 18 not to bear the cost of COVID-19 test and treatment of ordinary citizens other than the frontline workers and other designated groups.


Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 recovery rate has stood at 93.4 percent as 224,053 people have so far got over the viral infection. The number of new recoveries on Saturday is 2,206.


Nepal has so far confirmed 1,577 fatalities linked with the COVID-19 infection since the country first reported death of this kind on May 16 earlier this year. Nepal on Saturday confirmed 10 new deaths.


Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley, where the country’s federal capital city is located, added 460 new cases (256 males and 204 females) on Saturday. Nepal’s most populous city has registered 111,976 cases including 606 deaths.
