Agreement signed with Indian firm to buy 2 train sets

KATHMANDU, May 11: Department of Railways of Nepal has signed a contract agreement with Konkan Railway Corporation Limited of India for the supply of trains to Nepal Railways. 



According to the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructures and Transport Madhusudan Adhikari and Indian envoy Manjeev Singh Puri witnessed the signing in ceremony held in Kathmandu on Friday.

The Konkan Railways Corporation Limited is a public sector undertaking of the Indian government. The two sides signed the agreement under which KRCL will supply two 1600 HP DEMU Train sets to the Department of Railways of Nepal for bringing the railroad linking Jayanagar in India and Kurtha in Nepal into operation.


Each train  set will comprise one driving power car, three trailer cars with one air conditioned, and one driving trailer car with standardized accessories. These train sets will be manufactured by the integrated Coach Factory located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, according to the embassy.


The 34-km Jayanagar-Kurtha railroad has been built by IRCON, an Indian government undertaking, with Indian financial grant under India-Nepal Development Partnership Program.
