KATHMANDU, March 29: Air pollution levels have surged to dangerous levels in  Kathmandu and other parts of the country. The pollution levels are especially fatal in the morning and evening hours.


Air remains on the ground during morning and evening hours. During the day, it rises up due to which the effects of air pollution are higher during morning and evening, according to Indu Bikram Joshi, environmentalist and the spokesperson of the Department of Environment.

The DoE has urged the general public to remain extra cautious during morning and evening hours. Environmentalists have also suggested avoiding morning walks for the next few days.


Similarly, the Department is planning to suggest the government take serious measures against rising pollution levels across Kathmandu if the situation remains unchanged until today.


According to Joshi, the Department is planning to recommend the government to implement an odd-even rule for vehicles, and close schools and colleges until the situation is normal.


In the past few days, Nepal has been breathing the worst air in the world due to forest fires in various parts of the country.


According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air quality index beyond 150 μg/m³ is regarded unhealthy for human health.
