All-women staff for two polling centers in Surkhet

SURKHET, May 11: The Election Commission (EC) office in Surkhet has deployed female staffers to handle election related tasks at two polling centers.

SURKHET, May 11: The Election Commission (EC) office in Surkhet has deployed female staffers to handle election related tasks at two polling centers.



Chief Election Officer Kailash Prasad Subedi informed Republica that out of the total 240 polling centers in the district, two have only female staffers to hold the polls and manage other election related works. According to Subedi, they have deployed female polling officers, female assistant election officers, female security forces and other female staffers.


“We have deployed only female workforce at two polling centers in the district headquarters for a new experience,” said he. “These will be the first female-friendly polling centers in the district.”

Nirmala Regmi, an official of the Regional Postal Office, has been deployed as the head of the polling center located at Balmandir Primary School. Likewise, Bhumika Tarami, Nandakumari Chalise, Menaka Dhakal, Balkumari Kharel and Sita Karki have been deployed as assistant election officers.


Similarly, at another polling center at Haridilbhumi Primary School, Chief of Female and Children Office Jamuna Paudel has been deployed as the head of the polling center. Bina Thapa, Krishna Kumari Shahi, Ishwari Kunwar, Kunti Rawat have been deployed as assistant election officers at the second polling center.


Chief Election Officer Subedi said that of the total polling centers, 10 have female election officers. He further said that Deepa Hamal in Gadhi, Laxmi Kharel in Shiddabahila School, Laxmi Pandey in Mangalgadhi, Mankumari Gurung in Ghushra, Sunita Darlami in Hastabir Primary School, Pawiya Khadka in Chanaute, Nanda Paudel in Budhyapur and Harikala Acharya in Saraswati Secondary School have been deployed as election officers.


Ballot papers at all centers 

Targeting the Election Day on May 14, the office of the Chief Election Officer has said that it has already transported the ballot papers to all 240 polling centers in the district.


“Deploying government staffers for transporting ballot papers to all polling center has already been completed,” said Chief Election Officer Subedi.
