KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The owner of Annapurna Sugar Mill Rakesh Agrawal has informed the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MoICS) that a total of Rs 5 million due amount has been paid to the sugarcane farmers on Thursday and Friday.

Annapurna Sugar Mill owes Rs 420 million to cane farmers. According to the spokesperson at the ministry Dinesh Bhattarai, Agrawal has committed to pay the remaining dues by February 12. Of the remaining amount, Rs 50 million will be paid by January 10, Rs 120 million by the third week of January and the rest by the second week of February.
Meanwhile, a tripartite meeting between cane farmers, mill-owners and the government officers has begun at the MoICS. According to the spokesperson Bhattarai, initiation is being made for 80 percent of the payment by the second week of January and remaining by the third week.
