As air quality worsens, Department of Environment urges children, elderly in Kathmandu Valley to stay inside

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: The Department of Environment has urged children and old people in the Kathmandu Valley to stay inside their houses unless it is absolutely necessary to go outside.

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: The Department of Environment has urged children and old people in the Kathmandu Valley to stay inside their houses unless it is absolutely necessary to go outside.



The department’s direction comes following the worsening air quality in the Valley. The air quality of Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday was ranked the worst in the world.

Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the department urged one and all, especially children, elderly and those with respiratory problems, to adopt proper precautions against the growing air pollution in the Valley while venturing outside.


The Kathmandu Valley’s air quality has been found extremely unhealthy especially during the morning and evening time.


Air quality in other major cities like Nepalgunj and Biratnagar is also deteriorating, according to the Department of Environment.
