KATHMANDU, Oct 20: Following the suspension of Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Lokman Singh Karki, CIAA Commissioner Deep Basnyat has been appointed as the acting chief commissioner of the anti-graft body on Thursday. Karki was suspended after an impeachment motion was registered against him on Wednesday.
CIAA Spokesperson Ganesh Raj Karki said that Basnyat has been appointed acting chief commissioner as per the CIAA regulation. According to the CIAA Regulation, the senior most commissioner of the anti-graft body will be assigned the responsibility of the chief commissioner if the chief commissioner is suspended or goes on leave or any foreign trip.
CIAA Chief Karki was suspended from his post as 157 lawmakers from the main opposition CPN-UML and major ruling party CPN (Maoist Center) registered an impeachment motion against him in parliament on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Karki said that Lokman Singh Karki will continue to live in the official residence of the CIAA chief until he is proven guilty.
