KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Birgunj Customs Office (BCO) collected customs revenue worth Rs 105.90 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year, which is 5.67 percent more than the target set for the customs office.
The government has set the customs revenue target of Rs 100.22 billion during mid-July and mid-January. The collected revenue was Rs 32 billion more than that of the same period of the last fiscal year.

According to the BCO, a surge in both imports and exports contributed to a notable rise in customs revenue collection over the period. While the office collected Rs 38.57 billion in import customs duty, Rs 13.21 million was collected from the exported goods.
Of the total revenue collection, the customs unit collected Rs 41.03 billion in value added tax, which was 32 percent more than the target amount. Similarly, the BCO collected Rs 12.26 billion in excise duty and Rs 7.97 billion in infrastructure tax through imported petroleum products.
