BIRGUNJ, Feb 19: The Birgunj Sub Metropolitan City this morning evicted vegetable vendors from a land property it owns near the Ghantaghar area.

The vegetable vendors had earlier been running their business at Mina Bazaar from where they were shifted to the open space near Ghantaghar. The sub metropolis had started construction of a complex in Mina Bazaar forcing the vegetable vendors to seek another location.

The metropolis was compelled to use bulldozers to remove the vendors' makeshift stalls after repeated notices citing urgency for evacuation to make way for a park went neglected, Birgunj Sub Metropolitan City Chief, Pitamber Adhikari argued.

Meanwhile, Vegetable Entrepreneurs Association Chairman, Bidur Sah Kalwar, said the eviction without prior notice inflicted great injustice on the poor vendors.

The vegetable vendors had earlier filed a case at the District Court Parsa which issued a ruling in favor of the sub metropolis. RSS
