British ambassador meets Biratnagar mayor

BIRATNAGAR, June 18: British ambassador to Nepal, Richard Morris has said he would make efforts to make Biratnagar Metropolitan City a sister city of Britain.

BIRATNAGAR, June 18: British ambassador to Nepal, Richard Morris has said he would make efforts to make Biratnagar Metropolitan City a sister city of Britain. 



Ambassador Morris said this during a meeting today with the Biratnagar Metropolitan City mayor Bhim Parajuli and deputy-mayor Indira Karki.

Responding to a query by the British ambassador regarding the role and the strategy of the metropolis, Mayor Parajuli said the metropolis would emphasise on reforming the community schools for bringing progress to society. 


He added that the metropolis has allocated Rs 5 million for developing five out of the 54 community schools in the metropolis as model schools. The Mayor said teaching learning is taking place at 32 community schools in the English medium. He also expected support from the donor agencies for building infrastructure and carrying out social works in the metropolis. 


Mayor Parajuli informed that the government of Province No 1 has placed education and health in priority to increase the access of the poor communities. He also said that he was committed to the development of Biratnagar and to banish unemployment, working together with the private sector. 

Deputy mayor Karki informed that so far the judicial committee of the metropolis has settled around 100 cases. 


On the occasion, British ambassador Morris appreciated the Biratnagar Metropolitan City for its works and the plans, and wished it success in accomplishing development in the coming days.
