KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has demanded around 400 million to reconstruct those infrastructures damaged caused by the flood in July this year.
Speaking at a press conference at the ministry on Thursday, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsha Man Pun informed that a letter was sent to the Finance Ministry seeking budget to rebuild flood-hit infrastructures.

“The ministry has asked for around Rs 400 million for short term work-plan while Rs. 2.122 billion for long-term operation plan prepared by Department of Irrigation,” Minister Pun informed.
According to the minister, due to precautionary measures enforced by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the loss was less than as predicted before. He also stressed the need for effective coordination among the three tiers of government for disaster preparedness and prevention and river conservation.
“Concerned ministries and departments should work collectively to address the problems related to flooding as the existing infrastructures along the rivers are not scientific,” Minister Pun said.
