BUTWAL, Sept 27: The high number of stray cattle loitering on the roads of Butwal has not only disturbed vehicular movement but also has increased the risk of accidents. So, the Butwal Sub-metropolis has forwarded a work plan in coordination with various stakeholders for the management of such animals.
Traffic management has been a tough job due to unmanaged stray cattle which are found lying prostrate on the roads. Furthermore, they have also affected the beauty of the metropolis. As a result, Butwal Sub-metropolitan City has introduced some long-term and short-term plans for the management of stray cattle.
KMC to manage stray cattle in Dakshinkali-based 'Kanji House'
Shiva Raj Subedi, mayor of Butwal Sub-metropolitan City states that stray cattle have made the roads more risky and unsafe. Recently, a meeting was held among Mayor, SP of Regional Police Office, Butwal, Krishna Hari Sharma, DSP of Area Police Office, Pawan Bhattarai and representatives of various organizations.
After the meeting it was decided that the sub-metropolis will bear the financial responsibility while the traffic police will create awareness and will also catch the stray animals. A special fenced area will be built in Shivapuri Community Forest where the animals will be kept.
In order to bring a long-term solution to this problem, the sub-metropolis will hold meetings with the rural Municipalities too. It is also planning to suggest locals to put tags on their cattle and keep their record at the District Livestock Office.
As per the details provided by the Regional Police Office in Butwal, there are more than 100 cattle roaming free on the roads of Butwal. They keep obstructing vehicles, leading to traffic congestions. Not only the vehicles but also the pedestrians are facing threats due to the stray cattle. In the last two years, two people have died in attacks by bulls.
