KATHMANDU, July 25: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is set to implement European standards for air accident control, further elevating the safety measures in the country's aviation sector.

Raju Shrestha, head of the Flight Safety Standard Department, revealed that CAAN has initiated a workshop conducted by three experts from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) under the European Union.

The primary objective of this workshop seminar, which commenced on Monday, is not only to enhance air accident control but also bolster the proficiency of pilots. Over the last decade, the authority has adhered to the standards devised by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for aircraft maintenance within the aviation industry. However, recognizing the enhanced effectiveness of EASA standards over ICAO, CAAN seeks to incorporate additional aspects relevant to flight operations.

Raju Shrestha stated, "EASA standards are still effective. They include supplementary procedures that should be implemented during flights, making them more comprehensive and robust." Following the conclusion of this conference on upcoming Friday, CAAN intends to engage with various airlines' crews to facilitate the seamless implementation of the newly adopted European standards.
