KATHMANDU, April 26: The government is preparing to enforce a slew of measures to contain further spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

While the authority to enforce lockdown has been given to District Administration Offices(DAOs), a cabinet meeting likely today is expected to take decisions to enforce a number of recommendations made earlier by the Central Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC). The CCMC meeting has recommended regulating cross border movement and making it mandatory for those arriving in Nepal through air route to stay in quarantine at least for 14 days.

A meeting of Chief District Officers(CDOs) of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur is currently underway. The meeting is expected to take the decision of enforcing lockdown in the country’s federal capital city as the number of COVID-19 cases are on the sharp rise in recent months.

In addition to three districts in Kathmandu Valley, Banke, Bardiya, Morang, Parsa, Rupandehi, Kaski and Dang are among the districts with high risk of COVID-19. A meeting of CCMC held earlier on Sunday had decided to postpone all the pre-scheduled examinations across the country in order to contain further spread of COVID-19. The meeting also recommended the government to enforce lockdown in urban districts with more than 500 cases of COVID-19 and hilly districts with more than 200 cases.
