China-donated 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines arrive in Nepal

KATHMANDU, June 1: The COVID-19 vaccines donated by China have arrived in Kathmandu. 



Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hao Yanqi, took to Twitter on Tuesday and shared that the much-needed medical assistance landed at the Kathmandu-based Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Tuesday afternoon.

Of the 1 million doses of China-made vaccines, which were earlier announced to be provided on grants, 800,000 doses arrived at TIA on Tuesday afternoon.  Earlier, a chartered cargo of Nepal Airlines aircraft flew to China on Monday to bring COVID-19 vaccines provided by China on grant to Nepal. 


China on May 26, announced a grant of 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines for Nepal.


After a telephone conversation between President Bidya Devi Bhandari and her Chinese counterpart Xi Jingping on May 26, the Chinese President announced the much-need grants amid the rising fears of the coronavirus disease in the country triggered by the Indian variant.
