KATHMANDU, June 12: Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai has said that the government will introduce 'clean feed' policy for foreign channels soon.

Television channels, which broadcast their content by charging a certain fee, cannot advertisements. This system is called 'clean feed'.

Addressing the 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Advertising Association of Nepal (AAN) in Kathmandu on Sunday, Minister Rai said, “Clean feed policy will be implemented soon. The government is also working to introduce Advertising Policy and related acts to regulate advertising industry,” he said.

He requested advertising agencies to make advertisement materials that reflect our originality, trueness and culture.

Urging advertisers to produce unbiased advertisements, Chief Secretary Som Lal Subedi said that the government will bring changes in existing policies related to media industry as per the need.

Officials of AAN said that government should implement clean feed policy to help Nepali advertising industry. According to AAN, turnover of Nepali advertisement industry will grow by at least by Rs 2.5 billion once clean feed policy is implemented.

Annual turnover of Nepali advertisement industry is around Rs 5 billion.

“Along with the implementation of clean feed policy, we also urge the government to ban dubbed advertisements so that domestic businesses can grow,” Santosh Shrestha, president of AAN, said.
