BIRATNAGAR, Nov 24: Chairman of Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (Democratic) Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar on Thursday said that the constitution amendment proposal should be brought only in an agreement with all three major political parties as the issue has drawn differences.
Talking to media-persons at Biratnagar Airport, the former Deputy Prime Minister said, "There are differences within leaders of Madhesi Morcha itself on the issue while the UML is strongly opposing it. Likewise, no discussions have been held with Madhes-based political parties on it either. So in this circumstances, the problem cannot be resolved if the proposal is brought without consensus among three major political parties."
He, however, said his party would put its official views on the matter once the proposal is tabled in the Parliament.
The delivery of contradictory views by leaders of big political parties in relation to the contentious issues including boundaries of federal provinces has created current political problems, he claimed.
Saying the country may plunge into a crisis if the current political deadlock is not broken at the earliest, he also stressed the need for leaders of political parties to work for the welfare of the entire nation beyond their party interest.
Arguing that it would not be appropriate to get problems of districts resolved through the State Restructuring Commission, he viewed that a referendum should be held to decide on into which province the disputed Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha and Udayapur would be integrated under the state restructuring.
Such practice could be adopted to solve other problems of the same nature in other disputed districts, he said, adding that all political parties should go for the local body elections by putting the party interest aside. RSS
