BAITADI, Feb 19: A person detained in a case related to robbery escaped from police custody in Darchula on Saturday.

Dhan Singh Bista, 29, of Sunsera – 3 escaped from the police detention centre, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Kedar Khanal, of the District Police Office, Darchula told the National News Agency (RSS).

Bista, who was on the run after a robbery in Sunsera on February 5, was arrested the next day from district headquarters in Khalanga. He had been detained for further investigation ever since.

The convict escaped on Saturday between 1 pm to 4 pm. "He broke the knot bolt of the detention room and fled," DSP Khanal said. He added that action has been taken against five police officers who were on duty at the time Bista fled.

DSP Khanal vowed to take stern action against anyone found to be involved in helping the thief to flee. The escapee had earlier served three months' sentence on charges related to possession of hashish. RSS
