Coronavirus spreads in Humla’s five rural municipalities

HUMLA, May 18: The cases of coronavirus infection have surged in five of the total seven rural municipalities in the mountainous district of Humla.  



Local officials said that the district has recorded an increased number of the COVID-19 cases lately. 


However, Kharpunath and Namkha rural municipalities in the district have not reported any Covid-19 cases so far.

Out of 394 tests, the five local levels in Humla recorded 75 Covid-19 cases. Of them, 11 have already recovered from the virus infection.  


According to the Information Officer at District Public Health Service Office, Bhakti Fadera, a total of 29 cases were seen in Tanjakot Rural Municipality from among 98 tests conducted recently. 


Similarly, seven cases were detected in Adanchuli Rural Municipality, 11 in Sarkegad Rural Municipality and eight cases were reported in Chankheli Rural Municipality in the district on Monday. Likewise, 20 cases were reported in the tests carried out in District Hospital, Simkot.


With the surge in Covid-19 patients in villages, the concerned local levels have procured antigen test kits to carry out tests of the coronavirus in the district. 


For the first time in Humla, eight passengers who landed in Simikot Airport from Nepalgunj and Surkhet had tested positive for the coronavirus.   


Chief of District Public Health Service Office Prem Bahadur Singh said that since then the Office is carrying out regular tests and new cases are reported lately in Humla.
