COVID-19 is still spreading far and wide, only two districts report zero cases

Of the 77 districts in the country, only Mugu and Rukum (West) have reported zero cases of the flu-like disease, according to the daily COVID-19 bulletin released by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

KATHMANDU, Dec 27: Though the number of daily counts of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been declining in recent days, a report shows that the disease is still spreading far and wide across the country. Of the 77 districts in the country, only Mugu and Rukum (West) have reported zero cases of the flu-like disease, according to the daily COVID-19 bulletin released by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).



There are 6,493 active cases of the disease across the country of which 2,891 are in Kathmandu district alone. The district has so far reported 96,254 infections. The remaining two districts in the Kathmandu Valley also have more than 300 cases each along with Kailali, Rupandehi and Kaski districts.

The Valley has topped the tally in terms of COVID-19 related deaths too. As of Sunday afternoon, Nepal’s most populous city has witnessed 707 fatalities --- 464 in Kathmandu, 145 in Lalitpur and 98 in Bhaktapur--- which accounts for 38.73 percent of the total deaths (1825) confirmed so far in the country.


Meanwhile, Nepal’s COVID-19 tally has climbed to 249,863 as the health ministry confirmed 731 recoveries in the past 24 hours. The country on Sunday diagnosed 481 new cases of the disease whose first infection was detected on January 23 earlier this year.
