JUMLA, Jan 28: District Administration Office (DOA) Jumla, distributed relief materials to differently abled people who were living on the roadside after the mercury dipped to -8 degree Celsius at Khalanga, Jumla's district headquarter. Continuous heavy snowfall for a week has brought normal life to a standstill and affected vehicular movement in the district.
Nine homeless people who were living on the roads for a long time received blankets, jackets and were served foods in order to keep themselves warm, Chief District Officer (CDO) Bishnu Paudel said.

Paudel said that it was the first time homeless people from Jumla were provided with relief materials. The relief materials were distributed to the homeless people by the local police. District's Disaster Risk Reduction and Relief Committee supported the homeless people with clothes while the 23rd battalion of the Armed Police Force provided salt, cereals and rice. As those receiving aid are differently-abled, their identity is yet to be known.
“Due to lack of citizenship certificate, they are also deprived of getting Rs 2000 as a social security allowance. Hence, in coordination with local government, they will be provided with citizenship in the coming days” said CDO Paudel.
Bishnu Kant Pandey of Tatopani-4, Lalumati Kami of Chandannath-1, Ishwor Thapa of Chandannath-4, Manamati Kami and Makkare Kulal of Chandannath-2, Lamraki Lati, Devakiko Lato, Kamitoleki Lati and a foreigner Jagannath received relief materials.
“Till now neither our family looked after us nor did the stakeholders care about us, thanks to DOA, Jumla helping us feel warm in this cold," Bishnu Kant Pandey, one of those who received relief materials said.
CDO Bishnu Paudel, DSP Sitaram Rijal, Chief of District Police Office, Jumla and SP Roshan Shrestha of Armed Police Force (APF) jointly distributed the relief materials to the homeless people in Khalanga.
