KATHMANDU, June 17: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has extended the deadline for resurvey of the earthquake victims by two weeks stating that it needs to complete the inspection of the quake-damaged homes to include the victims as beneficiaries of the private housing reconstruction and retrofitting grants.
The authority has cited the delay in collection of data in some of the earthquake affected districts as the reason behind the deadline extension. The new deadline has been set for the end of June from the previously stated deadline of June 15.
Deputy spokesperson at the NRA, Manohar Ghimire, claimed that the authority decided to extend the deadline for the collection of information in order to address the grievances of the victims of the 2015 mega earthquake.

“If the authority had not extended the deadline, many of the earthquake victims would have missed the grant,” Ghimire told Republica, “The NRA has decided to conduct the survey in the households that have filed a complaint about resurvey.”
During its first survey, the authority had not been able to inspect all the houses of the victims to include them as beneficiary of the housing grant.
According to Ghimire, the information about more than 60,000 earthquake victims who demanded a resurvey has been collected till date by the NRA's Central Information System.
Previously, the NRA had instructed the dissatisfied victims to get the resurvey done by the authority's technicians mobilized at their locality. It had also directed the local representatives of the earthquake affected areas to assist the authority in order to include the genuine victims of the 2015 earthquake as beneficiaries and exclude the people having alternate housing options. It had also threatened the local representatives of harsh action if they were found recommending non-victims of the earthquake for the grant.
Only the earthquake victims who were left out in the first resurvey months ago were allowed to demand a resurvey.
