Cold-related death toll rises to 23 in Rautahat

RAUTAHAT, Jan 18: With the death of three more people including a newborn in Rautahat, the toll of people dying of cold has climbed to 23 in the district. People, especially of the Tarai belt, have lost their lives in the last one month due to the harsh winter.

Government provides financial help of Rs 100,000 to families of cold victims



RAUTAHAT, Jan 18: With the death of three more people including a newborn in Rautahat, the toll of people dying of cold has climbed to 23 in the district. People, especially of the Tarai belt, have lost their lives in the last one month due to the harsh winter.



On Tuesday, two months old grandson of Bhagya Narayan Dube of Gaur Municipality-7, Siswatole along with Teja Thakur, 51, of Garuda Municipality-5 succumbed to cold, informed District Police Office (DPO), Rautahat.  The new-born child, who was sleeping with his mother, had become still due to cold. Though the child was rushed to hospital, he succumbed on the way, informed doctors of District Hospital, Gaur.

Similarly, a fifty-one-year-old barber, who had gone to bed after a meal, was unable to sleep due to cold.  After vomiting, he was knocked unconscious. He was taken to hospital but he too succumbed on the way. 


DSP Ram Kumar Dani, spokesperson of the District Police Office (DPO), informed that cold has claimed a total of 23 lives in Rautahat alone.


District Disaster Relief Committee (DDRC), Rautahat has provided Rs 100,000 to the family of those killed by cold. 


"As per the decision of the government, the District Administration Office has provided relief to the families of the cold victims through DDRC," informed Chief District Officer Uddhav Bahadur Thapa.
