Issuing a press statement, GPFN Chairman Prof Surya Subedi, who teaches law at the University of Leeds in the UK, said it is unfortunate to see controversies being courted by those in the judiciary at a time when the judiciary is supposed to guide the leaders to bring the newly promulgated constitution into implementation. Referring to the controversies surrounding former chief justice Gopal Parajuli and his unceremonious exit, Prof Subedi said that these kinds of controversies had tarnished the image of Nepal at the international level.

Prof Subedi, who has the experience of working in a High-level Justice Reform Commission in Nepal, has demanded the formation of the commission comprising former chief justices with a clean image to make recommendations to keep the judiciary free from the influence of politics and partisan bias. Prof Subedi has argued that the formation of such a commission is critically important as democracy has not yet been translated into action in Nepal and the judiciary needs to remain in high moral ground to guide the government to ensure democracy and the rule of law and safeguard the fundamental rights of the people.
