KATHMANDU, May 8: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal have reached an understanding to foil the bid of Prime Minister K P Oli to secure vote of confidence from parliament.

The two top leaders of the opposition parties have also agreed to make efforts necessary to garner requisite majority votes in parliament to foil Oli's attempt to secure majority votes and prolong his stay in power for another two years.

Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had reached the residence of NC President Deuba at the latter's residence in Budhanilkantha on Friday evening. Sources said the two leaders have expressed suspicion that Prime Minister Oli is seeking reappointment as Prime Minister as per the Article 76(2) of the constitution instead of seeking vote of confidence in parliament.

Both Deuba and Dahal concluded that Oli had already made a 'trial' of this in Lumbini Province and seeks to replicate the same process to secure his reappointment as Prime Minister. Prime Minister Oli has already intensified his talks with the Janata Samahbadi Party to secure the vote of confidence.

Dahal's Press Advisor Bishnu Sapkota said the two leaders discussed in detail about foiling the attempt of Oli to seek vote of confidence from parliament. Rival faction leader of CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal had also reached the residence of Deuba in Budhanilkantha on Thursday evening.

Dahal has been holding a series of meetings with JSP leaders Upendra Yadav and Dr Baburam Bhattarai to foil the plan of Prime Minister Oli. Dahal's meeting with Deuba is also the part of the same effort, according to his Press Advisor Sapkota.
