KATHMANDU, August 12: The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) has filed a case against the state-owned Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) accusing the latter of selling substandard dairy products.
During an inspection carried out in October last year, the DDC was found selling 194,975 kg of substandard butter, most of which had crossed expiry dates. Many of these DDC products did not have labeling.

However, it is only about a year later that the regulatory body has filed a case against the state-owned DDC at the District Administrative Office, Kathmandu. The DDC had already sold all its stock during the lockdown period by offering a hefty discount.
Similarly, the DFTQC has also filed a case against Sujal Dairy, a Pokhara-based private sector company, for its alliance with the DDC. Sujal Dairy has been accused of concealing information of selling its substandard products to the DDC.
