DOLIDAR says rope bridge replacing tasks at final phase

KATHMANDU, June 1: The task of replacing the rope bridges locally known as tuin by suspension bridges has reached the final stage. 



As many as 24 rope bridges were replaced so far as 171 such bridges were included in the programmne for the replacement in various districts, said Department of Local Infrastructure Development and Agriculture Roads (DOLIDAR). 


Director General at the Department, Ram Krishna Sapkota shared that the remaining rope bridges will be replaced by the end of July.

The government has highly prioritized to replace such rope bridges and the result is satisfactory, Sapkota added. 


Such bridges were replaced at Suwanibesi of Lalitpur, Jalbire of Gorkha, Chhotechiple, Raikar, Daikhola, Rigne of Surkhet, Ghetma Piparchaur of Jajarkot, Dahikhola of Dailekh Jaljibi of Darchula, Simtal of Chitwan and Sungere of Makawanpur, Chunwangkhola of Rolpa, Jiujiula, Khalibang, Kimubot, Pukchibang Pedikhola Khulalu of Rukum, Khulalu of Kalikot, Pathariya of Kanchanpur, Jaldevighat of Nawalparasi, Bihani Petrol Pump of Dhading, Tirgunm of Darjula and Badalebesiof Khotang. 


Similarly, construction works to replace the rope bridges are at final phase at different places in Bhojpur, Sawakhola, Udaypur, Nuwakot among other districts as well. 

The Department has made arrangements for its respective technical offices to regularly monitor newly-constructed suspension bridges and repair old ones. Likewise, under rural roads, a total of 4,885 kilometers roads have been constructed so far by the Department. "Focuses have been given on operating these roads round the year and on upgrading and blacktopping them," he said. 


As part of ambitious plan of the Department to connect road network to all VDCs across the country, efforts were underway to provide access to road connectivity for the remaining 368 VDCs that are yet to be accommodated by the plan. 


Sapkota stressed the need for establishing infrastructure development department in all seven provinces while saying the Department would coordinate in developing infrastructures at provincial and local level. Public private concept should be taken in place toward that end, he added. RSS
