KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Dr Govinda KC, senior professor at the Institute of Medicine (IoM), on Saturday issued a three-week ultimatum demanding that the Tribhuvan University Council revoke its decision, which according to him sidelines the IOM while fixing the fee structure and student quota at its affiliate medical colleges.
“I would be obliged to launch another round of hunger strike if the government breached the agreement made with me,” said Dr KC. “I will wait for the implementation of the agreements for three weeks,” he added.

In a statement issued Saturday, Dr KC objected to the decision of the Tribhuvan University Executive Council to "undermine the authority of the Faculty Board of the IOM to decide the fees and admission rules at medical colleges in violation of the agreement reached with him."
Dr KC has also demanded that the government should not to appoint Ram Kantha Makaju as Vice Chancellor of the Kathmandu University and select University office bearers on the basis of seniority, efficiency and impartiality.
He also urged the government to bring the National Medical Education Act that remains stuck in Parliament.
If KC begins another fast-onto-death, it will be his 11th hunger strike. In the past five years, he has spent 116 days on hunger strikes demanding crucial reforms in the medical education sector.
