KATHMANDU, July 21: A party that approached the Election Commission (EC) for registration has been refused by the Commission. The EC did not register the 'Chiya Party' which came along with the necessary documents.

A member of the party said that EC refused to register the party as the name of the party was ‘too trivial’ and the party’s flag contained marijuana leaves. The party’s flag contained seven leaves of marijuana on it.

General Secretary Ravi Kiran Hamal said that the party was named as Chiya Party as tea covers people from the lower level to the upper level. While submitting the application for the registration of the said party, the officials of the EC asked the members if they had come to tease them.

According to EC, after forming the party, it should be committed to the preamble of the constitution and the values of democracy. An official of the Commission said that it was found that the ‘Chiya party’ did not respect the values of democracy and the constitution.
