EC starts distributing voters' ID

KATHMANDU, May 11: The Election Commission started distributing voters' identity card from the polling booths on Thursday as the first phase of local level elections will take place on Sunday in Province 3, 4 and 6.

KATHMANDU, May 11: The Election Commission started distributing voters' identity card from the polling booths on Thursday as the first phase of local level elections will take place on Sunday in Province 3, 4 and 6.



The EC had made the voters' ID mandatory for casting votes since it was introduced in 2013 during the second election of the Constituent Assembly.

According to officials at the EC, people should reach to the polling stations to collect the new voters' ID card prior casting their votes. For the voters, who cannot reach the station, a family-member could take away the voters' ID card by showing his/her other ID and signing a form.


As the EC started distributing the voters' ID cards, people are found queuing up in polling stations since early Thursday morning.


According to the EC, there are 14,054,482 voters across the country. Of the total number, the number of male voters stands at 7,069,714 while 6,984,625 females are registered with the EC as eligible voters. Meanwhile, 143 voters are third-gender.
