KATHMANDU, May 8: The Election Commission (EC) has requested candidates of other parties to not use the flags of other parties in the election campaign.

Stating that the EC has paid serious attention to the news and complaints received in this regard through various media and social media that the flag has been used in such manner, the Political Parties Act, 2073 states that the flag and emblem of a political party should not be used by anyone else. The EC has asked to use the party flag and election symbol of the prescribed size.

It is against the election code of conduct to use the flags and symbols of other parties and candidates and there is a provision for non-usage of any kind of digital board, flex, sign board, audio material and audio visual display for the purpose of party propaganda, the EC stated.

EC Spokesperson and joint secretary Shaligram Sharma Poudel said in a statement on Saturday that EC urges everyone not to act against the election code of conduct as action and punishment will be taken as per the law.
