KATHMANDU, Dec 15: The government has appointed Economist Prakash Kumar Shrestha as the Vice Chairperson of the National Planning Commission (NPC).
A cabinet meeting held on Monday appointed Shrestha in the leading position of the NPC. He was the former executive director of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) and a former member of the NPC.

Shrestha was once considered to have been in the race of the NRB governor after the retirement of Maha Prasad Adhikari. However, the then Prime Minister KP Oli and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel declined to appoint Shrestha as the governor of the central bank.
