Education and livelihood support for acid attack survivors: PM

KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that a new law would be introduced through an ordinance in order to punish those involved in the inhumane and heinous crime of acid attack. 



Speaking at a special event held at his official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday, Prime Minister Oli also announced that the government would extend education and livelihood support to the acid attack survivors.

Prime Minister Oli said that the new law would pave the way for providing free education, training, employment opportunities and livelihood support to the survivors of acid attacks. He also assured that concessional loans would also be provided to interested victims for entrepreneurship development.


Prime Minister Oli said that the perpetrators of acid attacks will have their property withheld to compensate the survivors along with their medical cost. He also announced that the treatment for the acid attack would be made available at Bir and TU Teaching hospitals. 


A total of 12 acid attack survivors from across the country attended the programme.


Prime Minister Oli also appealed to all authorities concerned to make arrangements to observe September 10 every year as the day of awareness against acid attack. "The government will work to ensure that the incidents of acid attack do not repeat in the future and that nobody has to endure such pain," he said.
