Election Commission working to resolve election symbol issue: CEC Thapaliya

KATHMANDU, March 17: The political parties that have registered with the Election Commission to participate in the local level election to be held on May 13 have been asked to provide details of district-wise activities and organization of the party. A total of 73 political parties have registered with the EC.

KATHMANDU, March 17: The political parties that have registered with the Election Commission to participate in the local level election to be held on May 13 have been asked to provide details of district-wise activities and organization of the party. A total of 73 political parties have registered with the EC. 



A meeting of the EC held on Wednesday decided to send a letter to the parties not registered as national parties but registered to participate in the local level election to submit details of their district-level organization and activities to receive election symbols with certain conditions.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said the meeting has decided to take initiative to give the parties that took part and received certain votes in the 2074 BS election, the old election symbol. The EC is ready to address the issue in a positive and appropriate manner after, he added.


Efforts are being made to bring reforms in the existing provision of not giving election symbols to any party other than the candidate of the party recognized as a national party as per the Local Level Election Act.
