KATHMANDU, April 17: People have been harboring doubt whether the local-level election would take place as the government has no stand on holding the elections, according to the 25+ Group.

At a news conference organised by the Group here Monday, it was informed that the initiatives taken to make the constitution acceptable to all have created a big threat to country's existence.

The Group has been carrying out the activities as the common organisation of the intellectuals of different sectors in the country under the main theme 'Let's say with pride: We are Nepalis'.

The Group, established two and half years ago, has been carrying out activities in order to make the people aware about the democracy as well as in favour of peace and good-governance.

Suggesting the political parties to take part in local level election without any pre-conditions as constitution amendment and election are totally different matters, the organisation said that it was not appropriate to express irresponsible view from those people taking responsibility to hold elections.

On the occasion, former Coordinator of the Group, Suryanath Upadhyay, said, "Elections and constitution amendment should not be linked each other. They have their own importance and space."

"Protecting country's sovereignty and freedom is a big challenge among us. All should be united for the same. It is necessary to maintain social harmony and ensure good governance", states a press release issued by Group Coordinator Adityaman Shrestha.

The Group also appealed to all Nepalis to contribute from their respective places for protecting sovereignty, freedom as well as to maintain social harmony. RSS
