KATHMANDU, OCT 18: Entrepreneurs have imported electric decorative lights worth around Rs 200 million for Tihar, which is round the corner.
Records with the Federation of Electrical Entrepreneurs of Nepal (FEEN) show that the import of electric decorative lights has dropped drastically in the years successive to the start of COVID-19 pandemic. In 2018/19, Nepal imported electric lights worth Rs 600 million while in 2021/22; the import expense was Rs 350 million.

Sudarshan Prasad Poudel, president of FEEN, said the market prices of electric decorative lights have increased by up to 20 percent this year. According to him, the lights are mainly sold out in one week prior to Laxmi Puja.
The products to be sold in the local market will be available for the price range between Rs 100 and Rs 20,000 per unit. Nepal imports these products from China and India. About 90 percent of the electric decorative lights are imported from China.
