“I have decided to resign from the post as my need is in the country itself,” said Upadhyaya. “I have submitted my resignation letter to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister today [Friday].”

Upadhyaya, who was appointed ambassador a year ago, decided to tender his resignation to participate in the upcoming elections scheduled for November 26 and December 7.  A former lawmaker from the NC, Upadhyaya plans to contest the upcoming federal election from his home district of Kapilvastu.

Nepali Congress (NC) District Working Committee, Kapilvastu has recommended Upadhyaya for the NC candidate from Kapilvastu constituency number 1. He used to participate in the NC activities even while serving as Nepali envoy to India.

“Local people and the party have exerted pressure on me to participate in the election and contest in the federal polls, so I have decided to resign from the post of ambassador,” Upadhyay said.
