EU Ambassador to Nepal holds meeting with NPC Vice Chair

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Ambassador of European Union (EU) Veronique Lorenzo on Monday held a meeting with Vice President of the National Planning Commission (NPC), Min Bahadur Shrestha.



The meeting took place at the NPC's office in Singha Durbar. Discussions focused on the 16th plan currently being prepared by the NPC, the potential impacts on Nepal-EU trade following Nepal’s transition from a Least Developed Country (LDC) to a developing country, and the multisectoral nutrition program.

Vice President Shrestha expressed gratitude to the EU for its ongoing support. He shared that the 16th plan is being crafted with input from various sectors. He emphasized the NPC’s commitment to formulating a plan that achieves its set targets.


The talks also covered the anticipated effects on trade with the EU and explored ways to mitigate these impacts.


Ambassador Lorenzo reiterated the EU's willingness to assist Nepal in bridging gaps in green economy and infrastructure development. She stressed that supporting Nepal's efforts in good governance and the implementation of federalism remains a priority for the EU.


Furthermore, Lorenzo pledged support for Nepal in both the 16th Plan and the Multilateral Nutrition Program. With Nepal set to graduate from LDC status to a developing country in 2026, she advised that Nepal should prepare adequately to continue receiving benefits from the international community.
