Ex-CJ Shrestha bats for education system change

KATHMANDU, May 9: Former Chief Justice Kalyan Kumar Shrestha has stressed the need to change the existing educational system.



Inaugurating the newly-constructed building of Vidhyamandir Secondary School in Baglung municipality-3 on Wednesday, he underlined the need for education useful for life. The ex-CJ said a competent human resource could not be developed unless scientific, practical and skill-based education was delivered.

"Our country needs robust education system", he said, adding the obsolete curriculum does not address our present-day problems. He also called for bringing timely reforms in the education system to align the needs of changing period.


"We need to make students inquisitive and exploratory having critical thinking and problems solving skills", he said, adding that emphasis should be laid on knowledge, skills, tendency, and values. An only educational certificate without innovating thinking and thoughts would not make any sense, Shrestha asserted, noting that the education should be linked to society, production and life system.


The 26-room new school building was constructed with the assistance of former students and donors. The investment cost was Rs 43. 7 million, shared school management committee chair Subas Chandra Rajbhandari.
