Exploring the wild wild west

We began our journey to western Nepal by riding a bus from Bharatpur. Though we were not able to go to all parts of the west, we did travel to the major destinations in the Terai belt. Our commute mainly depended on buses, but we also chose to hike in places like Dadeldhura, Kanchanpur, Baitadi, Dang, Ghorai, Kailali, Lumbini, and Nepalgunj. During our journey, we enjoyed the natural and cultural beauty that west Nepal had to offer. From the enchanting nature that flaunted diverse wildlife to the humble, and welcoming locals, each experience was worthwhile.

At most places, we were overwhelmed by the food portion. The chefs ensured hygiene without compromising on the taste. Also, the fact that the farmers forbade harmful pesticides on their farms amused us.

Western Nepal should not be limited just to textbooks; it is full of surprises. The spectacular sunset is something you usually don’t see elsewhere. And while you’re at the west, eat like the westerners: try local delicacies like freshwater fish, beaten rice, jeere khursani (chilly), and many other savory delights.
